Affaires courantes / Current affairs

I work just about every day. I feel at peace in this city, secure and relaxed. It’s a great city, very hustle and bustle, full of cultural activity. The people are very nice and simple, the town is laid back. I feel at home.

Yesterday was my birthday. We had a small party at the flat. People from the Street Level gallery and other new friends were there. It was a warming moment with birthday cake and all.

The day before I met Lee, a young mixed matial arts fighter for a portrait. I did many photographs of him ( and his black eye) in the streets of Glasgow. A few days ago I did a few portraits at the Skate Park in Gelvingrove park. Many people interested in BMX bikes and skate meet there on Sundays to hang out and have different events. I also met with Junaid, a young and tall 21 year old,  city concillor, muslum, Pakistani, left wing oriented, pro- independence. A great guy. I’m so lucky to meet all these young people in Scotland. There is definitely something energising for me in this experience.

I also met a collegue, Colin Gray. We had met in Portugal in 1996, both of us had shows in Braga. We were both raised in Hull, him in the UK, me in Québec. Great meeting him in the pub.

Today, my first ever drive on the left hand side of the road. Quite a stressful experience that was made easier by James in the passanger seat. You should of seen me, with my white nuckels on that steering wheel, trying not to look at the beautiful landscape, driving North. Tomorrow, a solo departure for the Isle of Skye.

Did I tell you about James, a new friend. He is my host in his flat, my driving instructor (on the left side), a photographer collegue that has a great show at Street Level  (and a book too) till the end of June titeld  Alex & Me

That top picture is him today,  looking out on Loch Lomond.

Cheers
