Mohammed and Rago undertook a partial translation of the book “From Dictatorship to Democracy” in Amharic and Arabic.
A second meeting of the workshop « Other Libraries » took place at the CCA with a wonderful group of international participants, mostly coming from East Africa and the Middle East, who are currently seeking asylum in the UK. We were using flatbed scanners to create images, and build the pages of a self-made/ self-publish book that would tell a variety of stories. It is a workshop emphasizing on the experimental nature of image making and storytelling, and where first impulses and spontaneous actions are valued.
I saw Nasir again. He said the picture of the tree on day 7 was not the five fingers tree. Mystery remains unsolved.

Une deuxième rencontre de l’atelier « Other Libraries » a pris place au CCA entouré d’un incroyable groupe de participants internationaux, provenant surtout de l’Afrique de l’Est et du Moyen-Orient. Forcés de quitter leur pays d’origine et récemment arrivés au Royaume-Uni, ils sont dans le lent processus bureaucratique de demande d’asile. Nous utilisions des scanneurs plats afin de créer des images et construire les pages d’un livre auto-créé/construit/publié qui racontera différentes histoires. L’atelier met l’accent sur la nature expérimentale de la création d’images et de la narration d’histoires personnelles, tout en portant une valeur particulière aux gestes intuitifs et impulsions spontanés.
J’ai vu Nasir. Il m’a dit que la photo d’arbre au jour 7 n’était pas l’arbre aux cinq doigts. Le mystère persiste.
