Kelvin and other stories – Kelvin et autres histoires

Kelvin and other stories

Near the flat where I live in the West End of Glasgow there is Kelvinbridge and a metro station of the same name. There is also Kelvingrove Park and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery. So this got me thinking… is this all about Lord Kelvin, the inventor of the Kelvin scale of color temperature that all photographes know about ? Well yes, and tonight I found a statue to his name in the park.

Wikipedia: William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin (26 June 1824 – 17 December 1907) was a Scots-Irish mathematical physicist and engineer.  The title refers to the River Kelvin, which flows close by his laboratory at the University  of Glasgow. Absolute temperatures are stated in units of kelvin in his honour. While the existence of a lower limit to temperature (absolute zero) was known prior to his work, Lord Kelvin is widely known for determining its correct value. Always active in industrial research and development, he was recruited around 1899 by George Eatsman to serve as vice-chairman of the board of the British company Kodak Limited, affiliated with Eastman Kodak.

Further down on Gibson Street, ther is this sign for another historicl event. The Clash, the punk rock groupe, stood on this sidewalk, busking for change.

And, a few more pictures aroud the area where a few portraits were shot. One was Rachel, a young photographer. The other was Sofie, a young danish art student. Finally, a photo taken inside a greenhouse in the beautiful botanical gardens, up on Great Western Road.

Cheers
